Clinical Effect of Ketotifen(Zaditen^(¢ç)) in the Long-term Treatment of Perennial Nasal Allergy


Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the clinical effect of ketotifen in the long-term treatment of perennial nasal allergy. Zaditen( 2mg / day) was administered to 42 patients with perennial nasal allergy for 8 to 24 weeks.
The 3 main symptoms, sneezing, nasal secretion and nasal obstruction were significant y improved from the first week of drug administration to eighth weeks and then, almost changeless. Physical findings were also accompanied with clinical improvement and global assessment at the end of the study was effective in 85.7%, especially higher (91%) in children. Drowsiness and fatigue were the main side effects reported (4 cases), but they were transient.
It was suggested that ketotifen was well tolerated and sufficiently effective for management of perennial nasal allergy.
